Windsor Academy Trust partners with the DfE to deliver the Sandwell and Walsall PEIA programme to schools

9th February 2024

Following the launch of the Metacognition and Self Regulation Strand of the Department for Education’s (DfE) Priority Education Investment Areas (PEIA) programme last month, this week globally renowned Doug Lemov and the Teach Like a Champion team, alongside a team of UK experts, visited 40 schools in Walsall and Sandwell to kick off the 14 month-long initiative.

The Metacognition and Self Regulation strand of the PEIA programme, which is being delivered by Windsor Academy Trust (WAT) in partnership with the DfE, is designed to enable long-term and sustainable impact in the region.

The programme will run from January 2024 to March 2025 and began this week with diagnostic visits to each of the 40 schools involved. During the visits, experts visited over 200 classrooms to identify strengths and areas for development, which will assist the team in building an impactful delivery programme based on their findings. Both TLAC and UK experts left schools feeling welcomed and inspired by each participating school's commitment to advancing techniques in metacognition and self-regulation.

By participating in this strand of the activity, the 40 schools involved will receive access to some of the most experienced educational leaders and experts in the UK and abroad, including WAT’s Sonya Lanckham, Deputy Director of Education, Becky Anderson, Headteacher at Rivers Primary Academy, and Gavina Raindi, Senior Deputy Headteacher at Windsor High School and Sixth Form.

Schools will also benefit from working alongside Doug Lemov and his team and become part of a localised movement to impact student outcomes for years to come.
