As part of the work that we are doing across the Trust with the Careers and Enterprise Company and the Local Enterprise Partnership, we have been offered an opportunity to involve 20 Yr 10 students at both Newcastle Academy and Clayton Academy in a year-long mentoring scheme. The scheme is managed by Career Ready (

In order to run the scheme successfully we are looking for a small number of mentors who can offer their support for 1 lunchtime session every month over an academic year (1:10pm – 2:10pm October 17 to July 18). A buffet lunch will be provided for those involved, and Career Ready provide ‘training’ and support to mentors (Career Ready Programme Overview – Employers).  Pairs of mentors will work with a small group of 4 mentees and Career Ready would need to DBS check and match mentor volunteers.

There will be a launch during the summer with mentoring starting in October. The project culminates in a celebration event which will be hosted by Stoke City Football Club, another of our partners.

If you or your employers are able to support us, mentors need to be in work, or with recent relevant experience, and Apprentices at Level 3 or above would also be suitable as mentors.  Through this project mentors will be given an opportunity to develop their own time and people management skills, and gain experience in coaching and guidance. We appreciate that this is a big commitment but one which we think mentors could find very rewarding.

Hopefully this programme will lead to longer term relationships being established with mentors and employers, so that the schools can continue to develop the scheme beyond next year.

If you know someone within your family or friends group, or through your work contacts, who might be interested, we would appreciate your responses as a matter of urgency.
